Targray Technology International expands its Solar materials product portfolio with the launch of its ToughSIL Classic Solar Module Lamination Diaphragm. Targray is now the global exclusive channel to market for Taein Chemical Company’s Lamination Diaphragm. The ToushSIL diaphragm, available in widths up to 3,030 mm, is one of the widest laminator membranes available on the market without a seam. Targray’s diaphragm also has a consistently high life cycle count of over 2,500 cycles, dependant on set up and operating conditions. This impressive lifecycle is highly repeatable from batch to batch due to Taein’s advanced proprietary manufacturing process.

“Taein’s lamination diaphragms are a very valuable addition to our product family,” states Cheong Wei Chua, Product Manager at Targray. “This material combines a number of other important features including a silicone-base which does not emit health-hazardous Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs ) as with Butyl-based products; excellent elasticity and stability; and a high temperature resistance compared to EPDM diaphragms that don’t always perform well under high heat conditions.”

“The diaphragm is a critical component in the vacuum lamination process,” explains Dan Murray, Vice President at Targray.“It exerts a uniform pressure throughout the solar lay-up, removes moisture, solvents and volatiles from curing composite layers, and enables encapsulant material to flow evenly throughout the solar module. Taein Diaphragm is specially designed for this process, and enhanced for higher laminator uptime and decreased running costs. We believe that this superior-grade product’s consistently long diaphragm life and the ability to laminate perfect modules with no seams will be very well received by our module manufacturing customers worldwide.”

“Targray is without a doubt, the ideal partner for Taein,” explained Dominic Yu, Marketing & Sales, Vice President at Taein Chemical Company. “They’re the front-runners when it comes to the supply of advanced materials for the PV industry, with a global infrastructure, strong technical capabilities, a world-renowned reputation for both product and service excellence, and proven experience in Photovoltaics.”

Targray’s ToughSIL Solar Module Lamination Diaphragms will be officially launched at the upcoming SNEC show in Shanghai on Feb. 22nd – 24th, 2011. Targray booth location: W4-510.

More on Solar Module Lamination
One of the key steps in Photovoltaic solar panel production is the lamination of solar modules. This is necessary to protect solar cells from harsh weather conditions and other external influences, and ensure the longevity and reliability of the module. The lamination process involves pumping the air out of the module layers in a vacuum chamber, applying pressure via the diaphragm which allows the encapsulant to flow, thus adhering together the delicate sandwich of encapsulant glass cells and the backsheet. The flexible diaphragm is attached to the top of the vacuum chamber, and a set of valves allows the space above the diaphragm to be evacuated. The vacuum process produces a perfect laminate with no air bubbles or voids in the module for a high and reliable service life. This also maximizes uptime and increases productivity in the solar module lamination process.
