Social workers nationwide help provide community leadership on a variety of healthcare issues, including healthcare reform and access, according to the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC). During National Social Work Month in March, Allsup, a nationwide provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation and Medicare plan selection services, recognizes the importance of social workers efforts’ to lead change and advocate on behalf of people with disabilities and their families.
“Social work leaders are strongly active in formulating the national agenda for healthcare,” said Anthony Yamamoto, president of the SSWLHC and director of social work and child development at Children’s Hospital Central California in Madera, Calif. “Our members are involved in evaluating the effects of healthcare reform and advocating for healthcare access, especially to help some of the most disenfranchised people in our communities,” he said.
Hundreds of social work professionals, including those in management and on the front lines of healthcare, will convene on Oct. 26-29, in San Francisco for the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care’s annual meeting and conference.
