We believe it’s vital to deliver the latest news, sports and information to our audience, 24/7, no matter where they are.
New Orleans, LA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 14, 2011
NOLA.com has launched Android and iPhone apps with real-time local news, sports, entertainment, business, features and opinion articles and photos from The Times-Picayune - plus one-tap access to local classifieds listings.
“The Times-Picayune is committed to reaching readers through quality print and digital products that enhance our news and advertising content,” said Ashton Phelps, Jr., publisher of The Times-Picayune. “These new Android and iPhone apps will further extend that reach.”
The apps are available for download at no charge in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market. They were developed and launched with Advance Internet and Verve Wireless.
“We believe it’s vital to deliver the latest news, sports and information to our audience, 24/7, no matter where they are,” said Mark Rose, general manager of NOLA.com. “As our audience finds and engages with NOLA content on many different platforms, these latest innovations signal our determination to continue to be the go-to place for what’s happening right now in our communities.”
The apps include social features for the audience to share content via Twitter, e-mail and Facebook posts. Users also can submit video and photos from their phones to NOLA.com through the apps.
Content on the apps includes news coverage of local communities throughout the New Orleans area, high school sports, local pro and college teams; entertainment coverage of TV, movies, music and the local arts scene; and photo galleries and obituaries. There’s also local advertising and links to classifieds listings of jobs, new and used autos, and homes for sale and rent.
The front page of the apps can be customized for one-tap access to favorite categories. Articles are downloaded and stored locally in the apps for fast access, even when offline.
(NOLA.com also has a mobile website that can be accessed by going to nola.com on mobile device web browsers.)
