The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) has chosen to install FieldTurf, the world’s safest and highest performing artificial turf system, in Wantland Stadium.

“We look forward to a partnership with FieldTurf that will further advance the Bronchos’ performance on the field and our national reputation as a leader in sustainability initiatives.”

The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) has chosen to install FieldTurf, the world’s safest and highest performing artificial turf system, in Wantland Stadium. The new FieldTurf surface, slated to debut for the 2011 season, replaces the existing Astroplay surface, and will be used primarily by the Broncho soccer and football teams.

UCO selected the FieldTurf system after rigorous comparisons and in-depth research involving many products and companies in the artificial turf industry. UCO’s research found FieldTurf to have a reputation for superior service, quality workmanship, financial stability, and a strong commitment to the environment that includes innovative recycling technology.

“At UCO, we want our commitment to quality and sustainability to show in everything we do,” said Steve Kreidler, UCO’s executive vice president. “We look forward to a partnership with FieldTurf that will further advance the Bronchos’ performance on the field and our national reputation as a leader in sustainability initiatives.”

UCO was one of the first universities in the country recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Green Power Partner, and has won numerous awards for it’s sustainability or “green” programs throughout the campus.

“We are pleased that the UCO administration thinks so highly of our product and our company,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “Everyone at FieldTurf is completely committed to providing the Bronchos and their fans with the safest and highest performing world-class surface in existence. This should be of great benefit to the athletes at UCO.”

Wantland Stadium underwent extensive renovations in the summer of 2005 with the addition of a three-level press box that includes club seating and new stands on both sides of the field. Wantland Stadium is also the home field for all three Edmond high school teams (Memorial, North and Santa Fe) and UCO has hosted the Oklahoma All-State Football Game in the facility six times since 1994. The stadium also hosts the annual UCO Stampede of Sound's Invitational Marching Band Contest.

When it comes to carbon footprints, there’s simply no comparison between natural grass and FieldTurf artificial grass systems. FieldTurf is 100% lead free and 100% recyclable. The company is a proud member of the U.S. Green Building Council and has continuously set new environmental standards throughout the synthetic turf industry

The list of major universities who play their home games on FieldTurf includes Nebraska, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, West Virginia, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Iowa, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Louisville. Twenty-one of the NFL's 32 teams have chosen FieldTurf in their stadiums and/or practice facilities.
