From author Caroline Rehder comes Four Plays, a series of upbeat, offbeat, funny plays that take a fresh look at old problems. These serious and sceptical comedies about the more absurd aspect of human behaviour have been performed at Fringe venues in London, Edimnburgh, Oxford, Berne, Amsterdam, and translated into French, in Fribourg and Lausanne. They have been studied as part of the English program at Colleges of the Suisse Romande.
Upbeat, offbeat and funny! Slapstick and repartee! These are Four Plays that take a fresh look at old problems, serious and skeptical comedies about the more absurd aspects of human behaviour.
The Muse Sneezes tackles the subject of procrastination-in this instance how to get a depressed, self-interested, lazy, alcoholic muse with an allergy to blank pieces of paper, back to work again. This play will appeal to anyone who ever puts off until tomorrow the things she or he should do today.
Tig is a fifteen year old, teenage rebel facing a severe adolescent crisis. With the help of Domo and “Dog”, the family dog who acts as both his confidante and conscience, he fights his way through his difficulties to some kind of accommodation with the demands of a society about which he has serious reservations.
The All-Purpose Monster. The monster here is the black dog of depression. The play shows Cro’s efforts to free himself, with Neah’s help, from this evil, malevolent spirit that sits on his shoulder and crushes his vitality.
An active life in the world with all its hopes and disappointments, or the solitary life of a recluse! This is the choice that Presto and Clown face. The pleasures of hiding and dreaming versus the pleasures and anxieties the world offers. Presto pleads for solitude, Clown for danger.
These plays are thoughtful, funny and very readable. Four Plays will be featured at Bologna Book Fair in Bologna Italy on March 28-31, 2011. For more information on Four Plays, log on to http://www.Xlibris.com.
