Students develop the skills and knowledge to care for patients in medical, surgical or rehabilitation wards of acute care hospitals.
Edmonton, AB (Vocus/PRWEB) March 03, 2011
Edmonton residents interested in starting nursing careers now have a new training option. CDI College is now offering the Practical Nursing diploma program at its Edmonton South campus.
In 73 weeks, Practical Nursing students develop the skills and knowledge to care for patients in medical, surgical or rehabilitation wards of acute care hospitals. They acquire a firm understanding of anatomy, physiology, human development, interpersonal relationships and communication skills. Students also learn about nursing interventions for specialized areas such as mental health, pediatric and maternity nursing. The program also covers basic, intermediate and advanced nursing theory and offers opportunities for students to apply theory and hone their skills in several nursing labs.
In addition, the Practical Nursing program provides students with a number of clinical experience components, which allow them to gain practical experience in continuing and acute care environments, as well as community and home care settings. A final comprehensive pre-graduation practicum in an acute care setting allows students to apply their skills and knowledge as novice practical nurses.
