We’re excited to offer consumers on the go a rich, interactive and fast app experience that complements our market-leading mobile websites.

Advance Internet today announced the launch of Android and iPhone apps in all of the 12 markets served by its leading local news and information websites across the U.S.

The apps include real-time local news, sports, entertainment, business, features and opinion articles and photos - plus one-tap access to local classifieds listings. They feature content from the Advance Publications newspapers, including The Star-Ledger, The Plain Dealer, The Oregonian, The Times-Picayune, The Birmingham News, The Grand Rapids Press and many others. The apps are available for download at no charge in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market, and they were developed and launched with Verve Wireless.

“We’re excited to offer consumers on the go a rich, interactive and fast app experience that complements our market-leading mobile websites,” said Peter Weinberger, president of Advance Internet. “These apps are another great way to inform, connect and empower the communities we serve.”

The apps include social features for the audience to share content via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail. Users also can submit video and photos from their phones to Advance Internet’s websites.

Content on the apps includes local news, high school sports, local pro and college sports, entertainment coverage of TV, movies, music and the local arts scene, as well as photo galleries and obituaries. There’s also local advertising and links to classifieds listings of jobs, new and used autos, and homes for sale and rent.

The front page of the apps can be customized for one-tap access to favorite categories. Articles are downloaded and stored locally in the apps for fast access, even when offline.

All Advance Internet websites also have mobile-optimized versions powered by Verve that can be accessed by going to the website address on mobile device web browsers.
