Syracuse, NY (Vocus/PRWEB) March 07, 2011
syracuse.com has launched Android and iPhone apps with real-time local news, sports, entertainment, business, features and opinion articles, and photos from The Post-Standard - plus one-tap access to local classifieds listings.
"It's another step forward in our mission to provide local news, sports and entertainment when, where and how you, the reader, want it,” said Mike Connor, executive editor of The Post-Standard.
The apps are available for download at no charge in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market. They were developed and launched with Advance Internet and Verve Wireless.
"At syracuse.com we recognize the value and importance of being easy to find and easy to use for all segments of our audience," said Michele Sardinia Barker, general manager of syracuse.com. "We’re ecstatic to bring our award-winning content to mobile users in this new and exciting way. It also provides our clients with a dynamic solution for building their brand in a truly personal environment."
The apps include social features for the audience to share content via Twitter, e-mail and Facebook posts. Users also can submit video and photos from their phones to syracuse.com through the apps.
Content on the apps includes news coverage of local communities throughout the Central New York area, high school sports, local college teams; entertainment coverage of TV, movies, music and the local arts scene; and photo galleries and obituaries. There’s also local advertising and links to classifieds listings of jobs, new and used autos, and homes for sale and rent.
The front page of the apps can be customized for one-tap access to favorite categories. Articles are downloaded and stored locally in the apps for fast access, even when offline.
(syracuse.com also has a mobile website that can be accessed by going to syracuse.com on mobile device web browsers.)
