As well as exuding an abundance of natural beauty, the island of Cyprus has another unique feature that is quite rare to Mediterranean holiday resorts.
Turtle Bay to the north of the island unsurprisingly gets its name from the many turtles that visit the beach. It is also home to a sanctuary for turtles. This attracts visitors in their hundreds every year to see the turtles.
Now, Jet2.com is offering cheap flights to Paphos as part of their Big flight Sale so that more people can enjoy witnessing the turtles in their natural habitat.
A Number of Flight Options
Jet2.com has a number of flights, to an eclectic choice of destinations, on sale for a limited time. Both Paphos and Larnaca, the two leading airports on Cyprus, are currently available as part of the sale.
This will give holidaymakers a choice of staying on the south or north of the island but those keen to visit the turtles will want to head to Paphos towards the north.
A Unique Experience
Both green turtles and loggerhead turtles can by seen around this area as both are common in the Mediterranean waters. However, they both endangered species which is why the Society for the Protection of Turtles (SPOT) was set up. Alargardi Turtle Beach is where the SPOT headquarters are based and where they do a lot of their research.
This includes night time surveys, something which visitors are invited along to. It is a great time to watch turtles in their natural habitat and helping SPOT is a great way to help the turtles too.
There are a number of measures in place, provided by the Department of Environmental Protection, to help maintain the turtle’s habitat. There should be no access to a beach from 10pm till 8am between May and October, no fires or lights on the beach or use of a speedboat within one mile of the shoreline and no littering with plastic bags in the sea.
Visiting the turtles is a great way to experience something different on holiday in Cyprus. Jet2.com’s cheap flights sale means getting there is even easier.
