The popularity of longer-haul holidays is on the up again after February half-term bookings showed an 8% increase. To coincide with this, Jet2.com has announced that many of their cheap flights to longer-haul European destinations are part of the current flights sale.

Whilst the 8% increase in longer-haul flights represented a desire for families to getaway this year, not everyone wants to be on a plane for a long period. This is why destinations such as Cyprus, the Greek islands and, in particular, Turkey are proving to be so popular.

The Many Faces of Turkey

The rise of Turkey as a leading holiday destination is partly down to its offering of beaches along the Turquoise Coast but it is also the many faces of the country that gives it its unique edge.

One of the defining characteristics of Turkey is the fact that it borders eight different countries, sits in two continents and is surrounded by three seas. This has made the country a jigsaw of influences and cultures, harmoniously existing to create an atmosphere not found anywhere else in the world.

This is also why Turkey is the ideal alternative to far flung, long-haul destinations; giving holidaymakers a taste of different cultures but with the convenience of a relatively short flight time.

A Great Choice of Flights to a Great Choice of Sites

Jet2.com flies to both Dalaman and Bodrum along Turkey’s southern coast, arguably its holiday haven. Here the beaches stretch for miles, lapped by the azure waters of the sea. It isn’t hard to understand why it is fondly referred to as the Turquoise Coast.

Yet, whilst this ticks the box for Mediterranean relaxation, those wanting to discover local customs with a difference should look no further than the busy shopping markets or bazaars as they are known. Here aromas percolate, traders barter over prices and colours create a dazzling collage.

Turkey’s fragmented history, so often at the centre of many major conflicts and regimes is also paid homage through the many ruins that are available to explore. Ephesus, Priene and the ruins of Troy are all must visits.

Jet2.com offer cheap flights to Dalaman from Glasgow, East Midlands, Manchester, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle. Cheap flights to Bodrum are available from Leeds Bradford, East Midlands and Manchester.
