We at NJ.com look forward to adapting to and staying ahead of the latest innovations in digital information

NJ.com has launched Android and iPhone apps with real-time local news, sports, entertainment, business, features and opinion articles and photos from The Star-Ledger and 11 other affiliated New Jersey newspapers - plus one-tap access to local classifieds listings.

The NJ.com Android app and the NJ.com iPhone app feature content from the number one New Jersey news and information website in affiliation with The Star-Ledger, The Times, The Jersey Journal, Gloucester County Times, The News of Cumberland County, Today's Sunbeam, Hunterdon County Democrat, The Messenger-Gazette, The Warren Reporter, Independent Press, Suburban News and Cranford Chronicle.

“Our newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania understand very clearly that we have to deliver information to our customers when and how they want it,” said Richard Vezza, publisher of The Star-Ledger and President of Advance New Jersey. “NJ.com, our affiliated online partner, understands that need and is helping lead the way. It’s an exciting time in a brand new information world.”

The apps are available for download at no charge in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market. They were developed and launched with Advance Internet and Verve Wireless.

“We are very excited about the launch of the new app and eager to use it along with the 7 million visitors* NJ.com receives on a monthly basis. It has been such a great experience observing NJ.com’s lifespan—from the browser, to the mobile version, to its latest adaptation as an app," said Barbara Chodos, general manager of NJ.com. "We at NJ.com look forward to adapting to and staying ahead of the latest innovations in digital information."

The apps include social features for the audience to share content via Twitter, e-mail and Facebook posts. Users also can submit video and photos from their phones to NJ.com through the apps.

Content on the apps includes news coverage of local communities throughout the New Jersey area, high school sports, local pro and college teams; entertainment coverage of TV, movies, music and the local arts scene; and photo galleries and obituaries. There’s also local advertising and links to classifieds listings of jobs, new and used autos, and homes for sale and rent.

The front page of the app can be customized for one-tap access to favorite categories. Articles are downloaded and stored locally in the apps for fast access, even when offline.
