The addition of the Android app to the already released cleveland.com iPhone app is in line with our commitment to make our content available and accessible wherever users are.
Cleveland, OH (Vocus/PRWEB) March 08, 2011
cleveland.com has launched an Android app with real-time local news, sports, entertainment, business, features and opinion articles and photos from The Plain Dealer and Sun News - plus one-tap access to local classifieds listings.
The cleveland.com Android app features content from the number one Cleveland news and information website in affiliation with The Plain Dealer and Sun News.
"We've got the local news and stories that can only be found in The Plain Dealer," said Thom Fladung, managing editor of The Plain Dealer. "Now, we've taken another crucial step toward getting readers those stories when and however they want them.”
The app is available for download at no charge in the Android Market. There also is a cleveland.com iPhone app available for download at no charge in the iTunes App Store. Both were developed and launched with Advance Internet and Verve Wireless.
“The addition of the Android app to the already released cleveland.com iPhone app is in line with our commitment to make our content available and accessible wherever users are. It allows cleveland.com users another vehicle for easy access to the information we provide, enhancing their experience and helping them make informed decisions about their daily lives,”said Wayne Snow, general manager of cleveland.com. “We’re dedicated to our mission of connecting, informing and empowering cleveland.com users and we’re excited to move forward in that mission through mobile platforms like Android and iPhone.”
The app includes social features for the audience to share content via Twitter, e-mail and Facebook posts. Users also can submit video and photos from their phones to cleveland.com through the app.
Content on the app includes news coverage of local communities throughout the Cleveland area, high school sports, local pro and college teams; entertainment coverage of TV, movies, music and the local arts scene; and photo galleries and obituaries. There’s also local advertising and links to classifieds listings of jobs, new and used autos, and homes for sale and rent.
The front page of the app can be customized for one-tap access to favorite categories. Articles are downloaded and stored locally in the app for fast access, even when offline.
(cleveland.com also has a mobile website that can be accessed by going to cleveland.com on mobile device web browsers.)
