American Statistical Association Debuts STATtr@k, Website for Student and Young Professional Statisticians

The American Statistical Association (ASA) this month launched STATtr@k, a website created for individuals who are in a statistics degree program, recently graduated from a statistics program, or who recently entered the job world. STATtr@k provides a central location for young professional statisticians to access career information and resources, as well as to learn more about the ASA and the statistics profession. The American Statistical Association (ASA) this month launched STATtr@k, a website created for individuals who are in a statistics degree program, recently graduated from a statistics program, or who recently entered the job world. STATtr@k provides a central location for young professional statisticians to access career information and resources, as well as to learn more about the ASA and the statistics profession.

The STATtr@k site features articles and career advice, most written by ASA members, which will help young statisticians advance their careers. Content is updated monthly, usually by the 10th of every month, and ASA student members receive an email announcing new articles. Articles that recently appeared on the site include:

  •     Tips for statisticians starting a career in business
  •     Advice, professional development tips for graduate students
  •     Making the transition from coursework to research
  •     Some advice for beginning graduate students in statistics

A “News and Announcements” section provides information on conferences, competitions, other items of interest. ASA has maintained a list of internships for many years, and this is now available via the STATtr@k home page. “Making News” links to recent news articles of interest to young professionals.

Student membership in ASA is available to those seeking a degree in statistics; cost is $15 per year. The student member receives all the benefits of regular ASA Membership, plus online access to CHANCE magazine. Post-graduate membership is available, with the same benefits, at the discounted rate of $55 per year. Individuals can join on the STATtr@k site at http://stattrak.amstat.org/membership/.
