Fairfax, VA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 09, 2011
MaxID was awarded in conjunction with its teaming Partner, P-SIG of Chesapeake, Virginia an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the United States Coast Guard for Transportation Workers Identity Credential (TWIC) readers and software in November 2010. The US Coast Guard has now deployed more than 200 MaxID iDL500 multi-modal handheld computers nationwide for TWIC enforcement.
TWIC was established in the Maritime Transportation Security Act and the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act to serve as an identification program for all Coast Guard credential mariners and personnel requiring unescorted access to secure areas within a port. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) are responsible for implementing the TWIC program. The Coast Guard is responsible for enforcing TWIC compliance, providing guidance to assist industry with compliance, conducting spot-check/annual inspections, reviewing and approving security plans, and working with TSA towards successful integration.
“As the US Coast Guard accelerates its enforcement of the TWIC program, we are seeing both private and publicly owned maritime facilities also heighten their adoption of our TWIC solutions including our multimodal devices, application software and identity services,” said Brian Skiba, President of MaxID Corp.
The MaxID solution has proved to be well suited for the US Coast Guard as well as MTSA-regulated ports and cargo vessels such as Delaware River Port Authority, Maryland Port Authority, Port of Shreveport- Bossier, Port of Port Arthur, the Passenger Cruise Terminal at the Port of Los Angeles, Citgo Petroleum, Conoco Phillips and others.
The iDL500 is a multi‐modal, rugged mobile computer that offers a complete set of features ‐ including QWERTY keyboard, contact card, contactless card, barcode, optical fingerprint, and optional magnetic swipe and MRZ readers with a digital camera, GPS, and comprehensive communications capabilities including GSM, Bluetooth and WiFi. The iDLMAX is a complete, integrated mobile solution for all badging, field-based enrollment and identity management requirements.
The MaxIDentity Suite contains a series of ready-to-use applications to read PIV, PIV-I, TWIC, CAC, FiXS and FRAC smart cards as well as passports, ePassports, Seafarer ID cards and driver’s licenses. The product can be purchased using the Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) model, so organizations can pay a low monthly fee for the application suite as an alternative to purchasing outright. The suite is available on the MaxID line of multimodal products including the iDL500, iDL502 and iDL520 today. The MaxIDentity Suite can connect directly to cloud-based MaxIDentity Services with a 3G or WiFi connection and subscription. The MaxIDentity Suite was jointly developed by MaxID Corporation based in Fairfax, Virginia and MultiModal ID, LLC based in Falls Church, Virginia.
