New York, NY (Vocus/PRWEB) March 08, 2011
Hundreds of protesters gathered in the rain this Sunday in response to Rep. Peter King’s (R-NY) upcoming hearings on the “radicalization” of Islam in America. Held in Times Square the “Today I Am A Muslim, Too” rally received the endorsement of over 130 organizations, and leaders throughout the faith community. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Hindus came together to protest the hearings, which focus on the alleged radicalization within the Muslim community. They are scheduled to open March 10.
A mere four blocks downtown supporters of Rep. King gathered in opposition to the “Today I Am A Muslim, Too” rally. Speakers called on the faith community as well, urging moderate Muslims to protect the United States from domestic terrorism by countering the effects of “radical” Islam.
Odyssey Networks’ “Faith Under Fire: The Hearings on ‘Radical’ Islam” will open with video coverage of the two rallies. This new series, which begins March 8 on http://www.odysseynetworks.org, will present commentary from a diverse range of faith leaders. Coverage of Sunday’s rallies features interviews with lead speaker Russell Simmons (Chairman, RUSH Enterprises), Rev. Chloe Breyer (Interfaith Center of New York), Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf (Cordoba Initiative), Daisy Khan (American Society for Muslim Advancement) and Rabbi Marc Schneier (The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding) and many others. “Faith Under Fire: The Hearings on ‘Radical’ Islam” will continue on Odyssey through March 18.
