Dr. Shailja Parikh gains certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) as a Certified Cardiologist, and as a Certified Nuclear Cardiologist from the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC).

We are very proud of Dr. Parikh for receiving this certification and for her continued dedication to providing optimum patient care. This is a significant accomplishment in her medical career.

HeartFirst, a group of cardiologists in Plano, Dallas, Irving, Arlington, and Hickory Creek, is excited to announce that Dr. Shailja Parikh has gained her certification in Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The certification program in Cardiology by this Board is a program for demonstration of excellence in the field.

In addition, Dr. Parikh has gained her certification in nuclear cardiology from the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC). The CBNC certification program provides practice-based requirements by which members of the profession can be assessed, and serves the public by encouraging quality patient care in the practice of nuclear cardiology.

A growing body of research suggests that Board Certified physicians deliver higher quality care than non-certified physicians. Board Certification demonstrates to the public that physicians have met the highest standards of internal medicine and its subspecialties. Board Certification is voluntary and includes an exam that tests a physician’s ability to diagnose and treat patients with a broad range of conditions.

Dr. Parikh completed her undergraduate and medical school training at the accelerated combined-degree program at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Parikh then came to Dallas and finished her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases also at UT Southwestern. During her training, Dr. Parikh excelled as both a clinician and investigator, authoring over a dozen publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, thus helping in the advancement of the field of Cardiology.

Dr. Parikh has been asked to be a presenter at several national meetings of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology. As a tribute to her many achievements, in 2008 she was honored with the prestigious American Heart Association Women in Cardiology Trainee Award for Excellence.

“We are very proud of Dr. Parikh for receiving this certification and for her continued dedication to providing optimum patient care. This is a significant accomplishment in her medical career,” said Dr. James Rellas, founding partner of HeartFirst.
