Srinivasan S. Pillay, M.D., author of Life Unlocked: 7 Revolutionary Lessons to Overcome Fear (Rodale, 2010), has received the “best motivational book” award at the 15th annual Books for a Better Life competition.
The awards ceremony, hosted by the New York City-Southern New York Chapter of the National MS Society, was held at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City on March 7.
Life Unlocked was selected from over 500 submissions this year in 10 categories related to self-improvement. Since their inception in 1996, the Books for a Better Life Awards have recognized more than 500 self-improvement authors while raising more than $1.7 million for the New York City-Southern New York Chapter’s comprehensive support services and educational programs for people living with MS and their families. The Awards recognize self-improvement authors whose messages are aligned with the Chapter’s mission of inspiring people to live their best lives.
“I am both thrilled and honored to be recognized among such a distinguished list of recipients,” said Dr. Pillay, who was in attendance at the ceremony with fellow honorees along with some 300 publishing industry leaders. “My intention in writing this book was that the insights in Life Unlocked make a genuine difference in the lives of readers. I am honored to receive this award, and my hope is that this recognition brings the book’s message to more people. When we understand the source of our fears—the brain/fear connection—we are more than halfway to getting past our often seriously debilitating fears, in all areas of life.”
