FIDM’s’s Fashion Experts Debut Trend-Setting Prom Styles for the 2011 Prom Season

Prom is one of the most important nights in a high school student’s life and for over eight years the experts at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising’s have been predicting prom fashion trends, reporting on celebrity-inspired Prom hair and makeup, and conceptualizing original Prom looks for girls and guys. Art Director Harriet Grant and her team created complete custom Prom looks to coordinate with the four global themes:

  •     I Want Candy: A sweet escape to a Parisian patisserie where a frothy, fluffy pink dress is sprinkled with sparkles and topped with a pink satin bow. This theme is perfect for girly girls.
  •     When in Rome: Inspired by the iconic Sophia Loren, this Prom look features a floor-sweeping red gown with piles of glittery jewels. The gentleman’s look includes cool Ray Ban sunglasses and shiny black shoes.
  •     Book of Love: A young girl pens her own love story in a swirling sea of brilliant blue ruffles. This looks is perfect for girls who love romance and fantasy.
  •     I Heart New York: Travel to urban and modern New York City where a sequin gown dazzles like the shimmering skyline. The gentleman’s attire is tailored yet edgy, combining a dapper suit with unexpected sneakers.

Also new to is a brand new Polyvore styling tool embedded in the site for high school students to create their own Prom looks, a fun prom quiz and a style Q&A with international celebrity and FIDM Graduate Nick Verreos. Through May 1, 2011, readers can email style questions for Nick to makeover(at)fashionclub(dot)com with “Prom Advice from Nick” in the subject line.

Nick will also be the celebrity guest judge in the annual Prom Advice Scholarship Competition, which kicks off on March 1, 2011. High school students can enter by designing a Prom Fashion line or creating a Prom boutique for a chance to win one of two full-year scholarships to attend FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Nick’s alma mater.
