On Friday, March 11, Sen. Alan Hays (R-Umatilla) will host a press conference in conjunction with The Heartland Institute, The Florida Wildlife Federation, Americans for Prosperity, 1000 Friends of Florida, The American Consumer Institute, the Campaign for Liberty, the Sea Turtle Conservancy, and the Tallahassee Tea Party to discuss a specific reform plan for Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.
Representatives from these diverse groups, who normally do not see eye-to-eye on most matters of public policy, have agreed to come together to address the following conceptual provisions, which Sen. Hays intends to add to his Citizens Property Insurance Corporation reform legislation:
- Prohibiting the writing of policies for any new construction in extremely hazardous, environmentally sensitive areas, such as land federally designated under the Coastal Barrier Resources Act (CBRA) and coastal property seaward of the Coastal Construction Control Line
- Remodeling projects and pre-existing structures in affected areas
