While many people will be tuning in to watch the royal wedding next month, others would rather take advantage of the extra holiday days they are entitled to this year, and head to Spain or the Canary Islands.

A number of Brits are choosing to go on holiday rather than stay in the UK for the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, it has been revealed. Despite the media hype and international interest that surrounds the impending nuptials, recent travel figures have shown that travel agents have seen a 35% rise in bookings for Easter holidays to take advantage of the extra bank holidays in April, say online travel consultants Travelsoon.com.
Luke Nathan of Travelsoon.com says: “The royal wedding has understandably generated a lot of international attention, and while some people are intending to watch the live coverage of the wedding at Westminster Abbey on the 29th of April, it’s emerged that a growing number of British citizens are choosing to take advantage of the two successive four-day weekends and the extra bank holiday next month by heading abroad.”
According to recent travel figures, holiday bookings in the last weeks for April rose 35%, with many traditional holiday destinations, such as the Canary Islands and mainland Spain proving to be the most popular.
Nathan continues: “These recent holiday figures, which show a substantial rise in holiday bookings at the end of April, demonstrate that more people are keen to get away and have a holiday before the start of the summer. While many people will be tuning in to watch the royal wedding next month, others would rather take advantage of the extra holiday days they are entitled to this year, and head to Spain or the Canary Islands.”
