With March Madness approaching, Duke University Athletics and Rogue Paper have released Duke GameTime - the official collaborative viewing application for iPad for the Men's and Women's basketball teams.
In the app, fans of Duke Men's and Women's basketball can read news, see schedules and scores, and send invites to friends to watch and comment along with games, together. When the game is live, users sign into Facebook or Twitter to interact with friends, while getting the most relevant commentary from the wider game-watching public.
Designed as a fan's second-screen companion to live-broadcast postseason games, the app allows users to "Tune-In" to a curated messaging stream, like a version of Twitter targeted toward the game. Powered by Rogue Paper’s TV Tune-In platform, the stream improves the game viewing experience by allowing for a community driven watching experience, and brings the fans exclusive commentary from the people closest to the action.
Duke University, home of the reigning NCAA men’s basketball champion, has one of the most respected men’s college basketball programs in the country with 15 Final Four appearances and four NCAA championships. Duke’s women’s basketball program also ranks among the nation’s elite with four Final Four appearances, six Atlantic Coast Conference titles, and eight 30-win seasons in the past 10 years. The Blue Devils’ vocal, dedicated community of fans make them an ideal program to merge a popular spectator sport with the fast-growing collaborative viewing trend.
“We are excited to bring a co-viewing and in-arena experience to the iPad for Duke Basketball fans,” said Duke Associate Director of Athletics / Media Relations and Public Affairs Jon Jackson. “In the upcoming months, we look forward to broadening the scope of this application to include all televised sports at Duke and more features within the product. Launching the application in March presents fans with a unique way – on a new platform for Duke -- to connect during the games.”
Rogue Paper, Inc. is a San Francisco-based developer of products designed for the fusion of traditional media with the second screen.
