It really helps to talk with other kids who have gone through a loss and understand how you feel. You don’t feel so alone.
Larkspur, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 15, 2011
Bay Area children and teens, ages 6 to 17, who are coping with the death of a loved one, can apply for Hospice By The Bay’s annual grief support weekend, Camp Erin™ Oakland/Bay Area to be held August 12-14, 2011. Camp Erin offers grieving campers comfort, a feeling of belonging and tools to help their young hearts heal after losing someone they love. Attendance is free of charge and includes lodging, meals, traditional camp fun, therapeutic activities, and transportation to and from Larkspur to camp in Sonoma County. On camp weekend, parents and guardians attend pre- and post-camp activities with their children.
Camper spaces are limited, and applications will be reviewed as they are received. Preference is given to first-time attendees. For information and an application, contact Hospice By The Bay at CampErin(at)hbtb(dot)org, (415) 230-6310, or http://www.hbtb.org and click on Upcoming Events Calendar to download a Camp Erin application.
Campers gain emotional support through therapeutic groups and activities led by professional counselors. Camp Erin provides campers with an important connection to other youngsters experiencing similar losses. As one camper said, “It really helps to talk with other kids who have gone through a loss and understand how you feel. You don’t feel so alone.” Traditional camp activities that weekend include arts and crafts, sports, swimming and hiking.
Hospice By The Bay hosts Camp Erin Oakland/Bay Area in partnership with The Moyer Foundation. Another sponsor, The CYO Retreat Center in Occidental, where Camp Erin will be held, is a 216-acre facility in the redwoods with a lake, playing fields, pools and heated cabins.
