In-depth manual on optimising leadership to grace the 2011 London Book Fair

An erudite in the fields of education and leadership, author Dr. Ross H. Millikan offers a comprehensive book that aims to encourage and enable greater organisational and operational flexibility and autonomy, through minimising constraints, resulting in optimised learning and teaching and holistic educational outcomes. In his newly published book, Authentic Educational Leadership in Schools, he provides educators and school administrators with an extensive guide to aid them.

Dr. Millikan’s thorough discussion on authentic leadership in schools presents a sweeping coverage of various significant concepts and studies. From philosophic and pragmatic underpinnings of schools, provocations pertaining to the current contexts of schools, constraints and impediments to optimising learning and teaching, and to recommendations for changes to improve current practices, the book covers a detailed presentation of the important things needed to improve the educational leadership in today’s schools.

Schools are person-developing, highly interactive, human-service organisations. This is why authentic educational leadership is a critical and important role that must be addressed and continually improved. It is a leadership that is informed about, is committed to, and is tailored to address the unique qualities and characteristics of the particular school and its organisation, and the unique nature of the school in its particular community context. Schooling could and should be significantly better than it currently is for both teachers and students as they are the primary participants in this enterprise. Authentic educational leadership, when appropriately supported, has the potential to create the environments which will come closest to optimising learning and teaching opportunities and outcomes for every student and for every teacher.

This book will be featured at the 2011 London Book Fair in London, England, on April 11 to 13, 2011.
