Aaron Miller has been named vice president of environmental affairs for The Doe Run Company.

Being responsible stewards of a natural resource requires thousands of activities mandated under ever-tightening environmental regulations. To help ensure ongoing management of these efforts, Aaron Miller has been named vice president of environmental affairs for The Doe Run Company.

In his new position, Miller will continue to support the organization’s environmental sustainability. He will serve as a member of the executive team and will provide oversight to divisional work at Doe Run’s lead mining, milling, smelting and recycling facilities.

“Throughout his career, Aaron has demonstrated his passion for challenging himself and the organization toward continuous improvement,” said Bruce Neil, Doe Run’s president and chief executive officer. “The programs he has helped implement are critical to ensuring we remain a viable business now and in the future.”

In his most recent role as environmental management coordinator, Miller collaborated with company managers and executives to develop the Environmental Task Management System (ETMS). The system helps Doe Run fulfill roughly 6,000 specific requirements monthly in Missouri and tracks overall environmental performance. Miller also managed the company’s stewardship program rollout, working closely with managers to develop training materials to support the company’s larger environmental commitments.

Miller has coordinated extensively with elected officials, regulatory agencies, industry trade organizations and consultants to foster open communication, identify areas for improvement and address community needs. Miller sits on the Jefferson County Port Authority Board. In addition, Doe Run has provided more than $400,000 toward two phases of a port study for Jefferson County. Miller also spearheaded Doe Run’s first sustainability report, outlining the company’s organizational performance using Global Reporting Initiative standards.

Prior to joining Doe Run in 2000, Miller served in various environmental leadership positions for ASARCO Incorporated, Magma Copper Company and Mid-Continent Coal. Miller has a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla) and holds numerous certifications for materials handling, mine safety and health.
