Texas CPA firms continued to fare well among the nation’s elite in the recently released Accounting Today Top 100 Firms of 2011. Two Fort Worth firms, Weaver and Whitley Penn claimed 40th and 93rd, respectively. For the second consecutive year, both firms also ranked first and second in a list of the Top 10 Southwest firms.
Weaver, the largest firm in the Southwest with more than 440 employees in six offices, took the region’s top honor with more than $65 million in revenue last year, a 12.39 percent increase.
Last year was another busy one for the firm as it merged with Houston based community bank consulting firm, Bank Advisory Resources. The firm also opened in Midland/Odessa in a merger with Elms Farris. Then in January, Weaver merged with another Houston firm, L.T. Hawthorne & Associates.
Whitley Penn also had a banner 2010. With more than 160 total employees in two offices, the firm boasted $32.10 million in revenue which was up a little more than five percent from a year ago. As in 2009, Whitley Penn was named an Accounting Today Best Firm to Work for in 2010.
Among the other top firms in the Southwest, were Padgett, Stratemann & Co. of San Antonio; TravisWolff of Dallas; Gainer, Donelly & Desroches of Houston; PKF Texas of Houston; Briggs & Vaselka of Bellaire, Texas; Lane Gorman Trubitt of Dallas and Cain Watters & Associates of Dallas.
