The Northeast Ohio-based design-build firm will provide construction services for the build-out of SmartHome Cleveland, a passive house scheduled for exhibit at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History summer 2011.

CPK Construction, a multidisciplinary design-build firm, announces that they will provide construction services for the build-out of SmartHome Cleveland, a passive house scheduled for exhibit at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History early summer 2011.

The Northeast Ohio-based company marked its 20th anniversary in 2009 and continues to advance their services as the construction industry evolves. “As a company, we are devoted to expanding our horizons,” said Chris Kontur, president and founder of CPK. “We are proud to be a part of such an important project and look forward to working with experts in green building to educate our community on alternative sustainable construction options.”

SmartHome will be constructed using Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) certification standards and will be one of less than 50 homes in the United States certified Passive when completed. PHIUS standards require construction methods that implement hyper insulation, highly energy efficient windows and extreme air-tightness. It is designed to consume 90% less electricity than a typical home its size.

Construction is expected to be completed in June 2011 and displayed as a temporary exhibition as part of the museum’s Climate Change exhibit. Upon conclusion of the exhibit SmartHome, designed by Chuck Miller of Doty & Miller Architects, will be moved to a residential lot in University Circle where it will be available for purchase.
