After opening its 50,000 square foot data center in Austin in the fall of 2009, CyrusOne, a preeminent enterprise data center colocation provider, is expanding with the construction of a new 72,000 square foot high availability, high density, data center in Austin. This is the first of an optional four-phase, 288,000 square foot data center campus with initial construction to begin this month. The space was designed with Austin’s vibrant high tech community in mind and will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2011. This premier data center will also serve the San Antonio market.

“We’ve been wildly successful in Austin and need to add inventory to service enterprises in need of high availability colocation space. We’ve seen a multitude of companies re-evaluating their data center colocation needs and moving to the Austin area,” said David Ferdman, CEO, CyrusOne. “This greenfield development is yet another opportunity to demonstrate our innovation and long-term commitment to local and Silicon Valley companies doing business in Austin.”

The new Austin facility will be located at the MetCenter II, a telecommunications hub unrivaled anywhere in the United States. It features two separate on-site electric substations, each with the capability of expanding to 400 megawatts of capacity and linked to completely separate power sources feeding the Austin grid.

To be built to CyrusOne standards, the initial building in this Austin campus will offer 40,000 square feet of raised floor with capacity to meet large floor space demands for turnkey data center solution. This will be a completely redundant and continually operating facility with a secure private environment. The building will be encircled by both interior and exterior fiber optic loops for quick and cost-effective redundant access to and from numerous telecommunications carriers.
