Arup has always encouraged staff to switch off their computers each evening before leaving the office. However, this was hard to manage as it was not an automated process. This challenge, the global increase in energy costs and the growing need for greater awareness of its carbon footprint the UK, Middle East and Europe led Arup to evaluate a number of power management solutions for its fleet of desktop computers. After a competitive tender and a number of trials Power & Patch Management from 1E, which consists of NightWatchman® and WakeUp™ was selected in November 2009.
