Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) March 30, 2011
Chairman of the Board of the Directors of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Sam Smith, presented the inaugural award for Literary Arts to the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future stating, “For continuing the tradition of writer L. Ron Hubbard, and for their commitment to nurturing new writers for the next generation, I’m happy to present the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future with the first Literary Arts Award.” It was accepted by the Contests’ Director, Ms. Joni Labaqui. http://www.writersofthefuture.com
Writers of the Future, now in its twenty-seventh year, has a long history of nurturing budding talent in the genre of speculative fiction as well as illustration. Labaqui, in accepting the award, noted recent recognitions garnered by the Writers Contest with winner Patrick Rothfuss, who just recently saw his second published novel “The Wise Man’s Fear” debut at #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list and who is also busy telling aspiring writers about the value of the Contest.
Labaqui went on to mention that similarly, with the Illustrators of the Future Contest, winner Shaun Tan was recently presented his Oscar trophy for Best Animated Short Film for “The Lost Thing.” Directly following, Shaun offered to become a judge for the Contest in order that he might help pay it forward to other aspiring artists.
Labaqui concluded by stating, “On behalf of the 600 winners and the contest, we appreciate this recognition and thank the Hollywood Arts Council for paying it forward.”
The Writers of the Future contest was created by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 as a means of allowing the newcomer a chance to have their work seen. And this program has provided that starting point for so many careers. Over 600 writers and illustrators have seen their name in print over the 26 years of the contest’s history.
