gMed announced that gGastro™ is the only integrated application specifically designed for use at the Gastroenterology practice and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and certified for Meaningful Use.

Gastroenterologists need true integration between the practice and ASC to deliver excellent patient care.

gMed announced that gGastro™ is the only integrated application specifically designed for use at the Gastroenterology practice and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and certified for Meaningful Use. This announcement is made after recent guidance by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) indicating that Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) encounters must be accounted for Meaningful Use and documented with ONC-ATCB certified Electronic Health Records (EHR). During the first phase of Meaningful Use Eligible Professionals must document at least 50% of their patient encounters using certified technology. This percentage will increase in subsequent phases. Most Gastroenterologists document a large volume of encounters at ASC’s and are at risk for not meeting Meaningful Use without a certified EHR.

"Gastroenterologists need true integration between the practice and ASC to deliver excellent patient care," said Joe Rubinsztain, MD CEO of gMed. "We are glad to share this vision with CMS and are ready to help with 14 years of research and the only EHR certified for Meaningful Use at the Gastroenterology practice and ASC."

Under the HITECH Act, providers that implement a certified EHR and comply with Meaningful Use guidelines are eligible to receive incentives of up to $65,000.

“After careful evaluation we determined without doubt that Ambulatory Surgery Centers require ONC-ATCB certified technology to meet Meaningful Use,” said Sam Rubinsztain, Vice President of Product Development at gMed. “Physicians using different systems at the practice and ASC will find it very difficult to show Meaningful Use because separate systems can’t produce a single report to the ONC, even if they work together as ‘interfaced’ certified modules.”
