A recent survey has shown that tourists are avoiding booking holidays through travel agents and are instead choosing to make their arrangements online. The study was conducted by research agency Consumer Intelligence: it found that only 20% of people booked through high street travel agents, while over half of respondents had bought a holiday on the internet in the past year. Online holiday specialists dealchecker.co.uk believe this shows that services such as theirs’ are replacing traditional means of booking trips.

Alex Saint, CEO for dealchecker.co.uk, comments: “For years we have seen more and more people take to the internet to arrange their holidays. These numbers from Consumer Intelligence are very significant as they show that this trend is continuing and that a sizable proportion of the population are using online services to book their trips.”

The Consumer Intelligence study surveyed 2,500 people. It found that 56% of consumers had used the internet to book package holidays within the past year. Saint believes that this owes to the convenience that online holiday sites provide. He comments: “Package holidays are all about ease and people want to arrange them as quickly and efficiently as possible. At dealchecker.co.uk we believe that these trips and the web are a perfect marriage, as the internet allows you to confirm all your plans with just a few clicks of a button.”

Saint also believes that this report highlights the transition of sales from high street travel agents to online providers. He concludes: “This survey shows that very few people are using travel agencies on the high street to book their holidays; indeed, only 20% of people making their arrangements in this manner is a very low figure. The internet is simply more convenient and customers are making the natural adjustment and choosing to arrange their holidays the easy way.”
