COLUMBUS, OHIO | APRIL 22, 2011 | Bizresearch, AEP Ohio & Auto Center Southeast are taking part in the fifth annual central Ohio Earth Day 2011 Celebration, coordinated by Green Columbus, on April 23rd on the grounds outside of Franklin Park Conservatory. This year’s theme, “Lighten Up”, encourages people to reduce their environmental footprint through alternative transportation options. All three companies will be taking part in the celebration’s first-ever Electric Car display, which includes the Chevrolet Volt and the Wheego LiFe car.
To celebrate the arrival of electric cars to the consumer marketplace, AEP Ohio will be on hand to showcase one of its newly acquired electric vehicles (EVs), the Chevrolet Volt, an electric hybrid car. AEP Ohio is integrating electric vehicles into its service territory through the company’s gridSMART Demonstration Project. In northeast Central Ohio, ten electric vehicles will be tested as part of the project. To learn more about how these vehicles will impact the electric distribution grid, consumers may visit http://www.gridSMARTOhio.com/go/PEV for more information on EVs.
“By integrating these vehicles into our system today, we can learn how they will impact our company in the future,” said Chris Schafer, program manager for electric transportation, American Electric Power.
Auto Center Southeast (formerly Saturn/Southeast) has been selected as a Wheego Electric Cars premier dealer, representing Wheego in Columbus. The Wheego LiFe all electric, high speed vehicle will also be on display this Saturday. Erin Chacey, director of Green Columbus said, "We're proud to be able to showcase EVs as one way for people to lighten their impact on the planet and are grateful to Bizresearch for taking the lead to make it happen."
Bizresearch’s President, Laura Thieme, noted “Many don’t know all that is involved in purchasing an EV, how and where they will be able to charge the car, and what would be involved in the installation and maintenance of an EV charging station. It’s great that AEP Ohio is working to make EV purchases and charging stations a reality for consumers in 2011 and beyond. Thanks to both AEP and Auto Center Southeast for sponsoring the Earth Day Celebration, and making it possible for others to learn more about electric cars, and charging stations.” We will offer facts on EVs, information on what consumers might need to consider in buying an electric car, tax incentives, and online resources for more information.
AEP Ohio provides electricity to nearly 1.5 million customers of major AEP subsidiaries Columbus Southern Power Company and Ohio Power Company in Ohio, and Wheeling Power Company in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. AEP Ohio is based in Gahanna, Ohio, and is a unit of American Electric Power. News and information about AEP Ohio can be found at http://www.aepohio.com.
