"Heated discussions about Blank have produced thousands of times more text than the book actually contains."
(PRWEB) April 01, 2011
Blank is a 200-page novel whose text is only 20 enigmatic chapter titles like, "A Character Broods" and "They Encounter An Animal."
"Who has time to read today?" Schneiderman asks wryly. “Blank streamlines the reading process by removing those time-consuming words."
Blank is published by groundbreaking Jaded Ibis Press, recently featured Forbes. In addition to chapter titles like, "A Character Broods" and "They Encounter An Animal," the book also contains 20 images of sky viewed through burned paper, by renowned pyrographic artist, Susan White.
"What's significant," says publisher Debra Di Blasi, "is that heated online discussions about Blank have produced thousands of times more text than the book actually contains. One of our goals is to publish books that stimulate and enliven conversations about writing as it relates to the 21st Century. Blank has certainly succeeded in this regard. We’ve heard from a few college professors who are putting it on their required reading lists. Others, of course, are buying Blank as a novelty or collector's item."
Schneiderman is a noted William S. Burroughs scholar and the author and editor of eight books, including the highly acclaimed novel, Drain, published June 2010. He is Chair of the English Department at Lake Forest College, and Director of Lake Forest College Press/&NOW Books, editing The &NOW AWARDS: The Best Innovative Writing.
Like all Jaded Ibis books, Blank merges literature with visual art, music and video, and over the course of one year will be published in four formats and price ranges: ebook, black-and-white paperback, color paperback, and a fine art limited edition that includes original art and handwritten text inside a plaster-encased box.
NOTE: Jaded Ibis Press and the author are donating 50% of their net profits from Blank to help support the Vanuatu Pacifica Project and Tanna Center for the Arts, developed by internationally renowned musician Paul D Miller aka DJ Spooky. DJ Spooky's original remix of Bach's Goldberg Variations 1-3 was created especially for BLANK and will appear on the Jaded Ibis Productions music compilation released December 2011.
Jaded Ibis Press publishes fine and unusual works of literature, music, art and related products with the intent of merging diverse media and art forms. The company directs business decisions with an attempt to perpetuate literature that is intellectually, culturally and ecologically sustainable.
