Chamber of Commerce honors Orillia restaurant Era 67 with Business Achievement Award for Entrepreneurial Initiative

Era 67 and its owners Ian Thompson and Sarah Valiquette were awarded the Entrepreneurial Initiative Award from the Orillia Chamber of Commerce in March at the annual awards ceremony. The Orillia restaurant operators were chosen as winners with over 350 Orillia businesses submitting nominations. “We were thrilled and humbled that we won this award being in business for only one year,” states Sarah Valiquette. “Many Chamber members indicated that our huge involvement with the community really impacted Orillia in a positive way.” Executive Chef Ian Thompson and his wife and business partner Sarah Valiquette of the Orillia restaurant hosted a multitude of fundraisers, started the "Era 67 Pursuance of Education Bursary" for Lakehead University in Orillia and hosted the first annual Cheeseburger Competition for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Era 67 is a casual/fine restaurant located in the heritage district of Orillia that showcases the savory flavours from Canada’s coast to coast. From fresh B.C. salmon, Alberta beef, Ontario lamb to P.E.I mussels and a vast majority of local proteins and produce. “Our promise to all their guests is everything within Era 67 will be 100% Canadian,” remarks Chef Thompson. “Having fresh ingredients is not a choice, it is a lifestyle.”

The concept of Era 67 came into fruition from Executive Chef Ian Thompson and Sarah’s passion for their beautiful country and the inspiration derived from the Era of 1867, when citizens from all walks of life joined together to create Canada - a bold new country built on hope, faith and hard work. Sarah and Ian have travelled across Canada Staying true to this promise. Era 67 is a celebration of Canada’s finest foods, coupled with a heritage inspired ambiance. Decorated with real birch bark throughout, Group of Seven artwork and a private room for up to 12 people titled, “The Grand Parliament Room” showcasing letters they received from our Prime Ministers and pictures of local and provincial members of parliament. This room has been a popular spot for local and provincial members of parliament holding various business meetings and other affairs.

The popular Simcoe County Ontario restaurant is preparing for the busy summer season ahead with a re-design of their outdoor patio, adding more seating as well as seating around the bar and building a 12 x 12 stage in the courtyard for all the local bands and musicians to play. Era 67 is also adding a smoker next to the grill to do freshly smoked ribs, duck and fish, to name a few of the always locally inspired Era 67 menu offerings, contributing to why Era 67 is considered one of the hottest spots in downtown Orillia.
