American Public Media and Launch Productions, Minneapolis’ The Promised Land, with host Majora Carter, has received a Peabody Award for best electronic media.
“American Public Media is proud to introduce audiences to diverse and engaging perspectives through our programming,” said Judy McAlpine, senior vice president national content division, APM. “Of the 39 Peabody recipients this year, more than half are public or non-profit media, and we are honored that The Promised Land with Majora Carter’s distinctive vision, is among them.”

The Peabodys are the oldest awards in broadcasting and are considered among the most prestigious and selective prizes in media. They recognize excellence and meritorious work by radio and television stations, networks, webcasters, producing organizations and individuals.
The winners, chosen by the Peabody board as the best in media for the year 2010, were named on March 31 in a ceremony in the Peabody Gallery on the University of Georgia campus.
