Laura Vikmanis – From The Sidelines To The Big Time

Laura Vikmanis, Skinny Mom’s resident “Mom to Cheer For”, overcame great odds to become the NFL’s oldest cheerleader – and now her story will be featured on the silver screen courtesy of New Line Cinema and screenwriters Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg.

The mother of two teenager girls, Vikmanis was left struggling to deal with her divorce and in need of a change. Then, at a game for her hometown team, the Cincinnati Bengals, her sister suggested she try something new to reclaim her happiness. So, Vikmanis, a former dancer, decided she wanted to try her hand at cheerleading.

At the age of 39 – she first tried out for the Ben-Gals squad and made it into the final round, only to get cut. This experience only made her more determined to succeed and after improving her skills over the following year, she made it onto the squad at the unheard of age of 40. Now, at 42, Vikmanis cheers alongside women half her age – and has proven the power of hard work, determination and the possibilities of reinvention.
