The leader in organics recycling.
Frisco, Texas (Vocus/PRWEB) April 06, 2011
Matt Hedrick, EVP of Quest Recycling Services LLC was a keynote speaker at The Kansas Department of Health and Environment 17th WORKS! Conference on Recycling, Composting, Household Hazardous Waste and Renewable Energy in Wichita, KS.
Quest Recycling EVP encouraged conference participants to jump on the waste to energy revolution and provided information on how Quest Recycling designed and rolled out a nationwide food recycling, also called organics, program to process food waste into high value end products such as energy and compost.
Quest Recycling is at the fore front of the waste to energy movement, working with the nation‘s largest retailers and food waste processors to recycle over 180,000 tons of organics in 2010. It takes an average of 30 years for organic waste to break down into stable compounds in your average landfill, in comparison, a well-run composter will complete the job in as little as three weeks.
“Designing a nationwide organic recycling program offered many opportunities” said Matt Hedrick,“whether securing flow control and franchise agreement, working with a broad variance of end users governance or providing communication and obtaining program approval from all levels of state and local regulatory networks.“
The organics recycling program is designed to help Quest customers divert food waste from landfill and achieve zero waste. “The first step is to share information about waste volume to help our customer right size the food order, the second step is to send food to food banks and the third step is to design a sustainable organics recycling program” said Hedrick. “ In kansas, for example, 99% of the organics is sent to compost and 1% is used to feed animals.”
“This is an exciting time,” says Hedrick, “we can now leverage a wider selection of recycling technologies ranging from anaerobic digestion, compost, direct feed, formulation to feed or process to feed and provide our customers with cost effective solutions to recycle their organics materials while minimizing the miles driven to transport the material”.
Quest Recycling EVP keynote presentation highlighted the commitment from Quest Recycling customers to recycle food waste and drive the waste to energy and organics recycling industry.
