"We are offering these courses because when the community succeeds, we all succeed."
San Antonio, Texas (Vocus/PRWEB) April 07, 2011
As part of National Financial Literacy month, Generations Federal Credit Union will offer the community a free in-depth Personal Finance Course throughout April. The class will cover a variety of topics including understanding and setting personal financial goals, responsible borrowing and understanding your credit report.
The class will be held beginning April 19 through April 29 and will be conducted at various Generations branches throughout San Antonio.
“Generations was founded more than 70 years ago with the purpose of serving as a financial advocate for our members,” said Christine Voigt, Chief Operations Officer for Generations. “Financial education has always been a cornerstone of our community outreach. We partner with businesses, universities and schools across our community to bring a comprehensive program aimed at fiscal understanding and responsibility. When the community succeeds, we all succeed.”
In 2003, the United States Senate designated April as National Financial Literacy Month in order to promote awareness of dealing with debt and effectively handling money. A recent study by Experian, one of the three largest credit-reporting companies in the nation, revealed that of the top 25 cities in the United States, San Antonians had the highest credit card debt after the 2010 holiday season. The city also has on average some of the lowest credit scores across the country.
