Today Global Technology Transfer Group, Inc. (GTT Group), the world leader in patent asset analysis and monetization services, releases the Q4 2010 Patent Market Index (PMI), an index tracking patent transaction activity and trends in the patent marketplace.

The Q4 2010 PMI shows a rise of more than 10 points over the last three quarters, rising from 74.1 to 84.8 between Q2 and Q4 of 2010.

“The increase of 10.7 points from Q2 2010 to Q4 2010 continues to signal steady market recovery, solidly advancing the PMI over the last two years. We remain cautiously optimistic for a continued steady market recovery through 2011,” explained Michael Lubitz, CEO and Chairman of GTT Group.

“The market growth is accelerating at a greater rate than our consensus forecast. The primary driver of this market recovery is continued growth in broadband mobility and related technologies, applications, and infrastructure. Intellectual Venture’s bulk acquisition efforts ended in 2007/2008. Recent evolutions in the marketplace reflect the development of several defensive aggregation models and advancement of patent acquisition competency in the world’s leading technology companies,“ remarked Lubitz.

More than 452 notable patent transfers occurred during the quarter, more than double the number of patent transfers in the previous quarter. The Top Ten Universities for Internal Patent Activity and External Commercialization Activity are listed in the Q4 2010 report, and a report on Outlook and Activity for the Top Ten Class Codes.
