Rottenstein Law Group Warning Users That a Break From Fosamax Might Not Mean Additional Time to Sue Drug Manufacturer for Harms Suffered

The Rottenstein Law Group, which represents clients with claims stemming from the severe side effects of the drug Fosamax, is warning those whose doctors advise time off from taking the drug to speak with legal counsel sooner rather than later, because an interruption in dosing might not result in a pausing of the time to sue for harms caused by the medication.

Despite being the most popular osteoporosis treatment medication on the market, Fosamax has been linked to several serious side effects. In 2004, researchers found a causal connection between Fosamax and osteonecrosis of the jaw, a condition where the jawbone dies due to a lack of blood supply. More recently, people have suffered low-impact femur fractures after falling from standing height or less, according to numerous complaints received by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Evidence is building that taking Fosamax or similar medications for the treatment of osteoporosis causes a dramatic increase in risk of this particular kind of rare fracture to the thigh bone.

Some doctors are now recommending that patients take a break from taking Fosamax or other bisphosphonate drugs after as few as five or as many as ten years of treatment. The Rottenstein Law Group cautions those who have taken Fosamax that if any harm has already been suffered by a person—including specifically subclinical harm that has not been diagnosed—the time to bring a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the drug taken might have already begun to run, and taking a break from taking the medication will not toll the period in which a victim must sue, as provided by law.

Accordingly, the Rottenstein Law Group urges anyone whose friend or relative has been prescribed Fosamax or another osteoporosis drug to reach out to that person and recommend that he or she consult a physician immediately and then speak to a qualified personal injury lawyer. The Rottenstein Law Group maintains a Fosamax Lawsuit Information Center at The site has features that allow for easy sharing, including links for automatic posting on Facebook and Twitter, specifically to enable visitors to spread the word about the dangers of Fosamax.
