Bluegreen Corporation (NYSE: BXG), a leading provider of Colorful Places to Live and Play, today announced that its Charleston, South Carolina timeshare resort, Lodge Alley Inn, is convenient to the festivities of the 5th Annual Environmental Stewardship Awards Gala, taking place on April 30, 2011. This annual event is considered “The Oscars of Lowcountry Environmental Protection” due to the great legacy, achievement and leadership of former award winners.

Past recipients include former Vice President Al Gore, the Charleston Battery, Alexandra Cousteau and Philippe Cousteau, Jr., legendary South Carolina Senator Ernest F. Hollings and Mrs. Ernest F. Hollings, Mepkin Abbey monastery, and author Pat Conroy.

This year’s recipient of the Legacy Award is Dr. Sylvia Earle, an American oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence who has led more than 400 expeditions worldwide with more than 7,000 hours underwater. She was also named Time Magazine’s first “hero for the planet” in 1998.

The Leadership Award goes to BMW, one of the first manufacturers in South Carolina to be awarded ISO 14001 environmental certification. The Upstate BMW campus pulls nearly two-thirds of its energy from methane gas from a nearby landfill.

The Achievement Award goes to Brad Wyche, executive director of Upstate Fever, which he founded in 1998 to protect special places and promote sensible growth in a 10-county region of upstate South Carolina. His peers also named him one of “The Best Lawyers in America” for his concentration in the environmental field.

The black-tie gala recognizes exceptional people and organizations that demonstrate the kind of dedication to protecting our precious natural resources with three specific awards: Legacy, Achievement and Leadership. In addition to the awards, the event will include dinner and dancing. The event will take place from 6-11 p.m. on April 30, 2011 on the Liberty Square Lawn at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, not far from Bluegreen’s Lodge Alley Inn.
