Just because many of us are now parents and grandparents doesn’t mean that we gave up our love of a good time or an appreciation of nature, togetherness and family.

When the Who sang “I hope I die before I get old” or “Summertime Blues” they obviously weren’t thinking about spending time in a tropical paradise with their kids and grandkids.
And as baby boomers come of age and begin looking to create special experiences they can share with their children and grandkids, affordable tropical paradises such as Belize begin to beckon.
The Lodge at Chaa Creek, founded by two travelling baby boomers in the 1970s and now Belize’s most recognised eco resort, is responding with special holiday packages designed to bring post war progeny and their families closer together.
Chaa Creek proprietor and GM Lucy Fleming said that the idea came out of her own experiences.
“I realised that as we mature our growing families become more and more important, but finding the time to experience things together becomes increasingly difficult, especially in this age of social networking, X Boxes, television and all the other technological distractions.
“Sometimes you just want to get away from it all and spend real quality time to catch up with your loved ones, to take walks, explore new things together, share an adventure or just have the space to relax and talk,” she said.
“This led to the creation of special, affordable holiday packages designed for people of our generation who want to share an exotic adventure with their kids and grandkids.”
Chaa Creek has just released a new all-inclusive Belize Summer Family Adventure Vacation Package, making a family rainforest holiday that much more attractive with discounts that increase with the size of the family groups. A group of four adults receives a 10% discount on the entire package, including accommodation, meals, activities, transfers and more. Six adults receive 15%, and eight or more attract 20% off the entire holiday.
“When you consider that the discounts cover such a range of costs, they are pretty significant and make a Belize family vacation that much more affordable,” Ms Fleming said.
“Beautiful canoe trips down the Macal River, swimming, horseback riding and mountain biking through jungle trails, guided visits to Maya temples and the sacred Maya caves, instructive nature walks and a range of activities are just some of the choices available in this package.”
The Belize Summer Family Adventure Package is all-inclusive with:
- round trip transfers from Belize International Airport or Belize City
- a visit to the Belize Zoo during transfer on arrival or departure
- beautiful thatched roof cottage accommodations
- full breakfast, lunch and dinner
- all government taxes
- gratuities to Chaa Creek staff
- guided visits to the Natural History Museum, Butterfly Farm, and Maya Medicinal Plant Trail

The 3 Night Family Summer Adventure includes all the above plus a choice of one full day tour, a half day tour on non-transfer days, and unlimited onsite activities.
The 4 Night Family Summer Adventure includes all the above plus a choice of two full day tours, a half day tour on non-transfer days, and unlimited onsite activities.
The 5 Night Family Summer Adventure includes all the above plus a choice of two full day tours, a half day tour on non-transfer days, and unlimited onsite activities.
Families can also customise their vacation packages with a selection of optional tours and activities.
“We began Chaa Creek as a small family farm, and it grew with our own clan, so we have a deep appreciation of those special bonds. We have always made sure that there is something for people of all ages, from grandparents to babies and everyone in between, and our guests tell us how much they appreciate this.
“In addition to many shared activities, we also offer special kids’ activities, as well as friendly child minding and babysitting for when parents want a bit of their own quality time and socialising.
“Being able to explore the many Maya temples and archaeological sites and learn about this fascinating culture, especially with 2012 approaching, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as is a family canoe trip down the meandering Macal River to San Ignacio town. We want each and every family member to come away with memories they’ll cherish forever.
“We also hope that everyone will get an appreciation of how you can have a Green, sustainable holiday without sacrificing comfort or even luxury. Chaa Creek is internationally recognised as a model for responsible travel and sustainable tourism, and we love to see how entire families appreciate and even learn from our efforts,” Ms Fleming said.
The Chaa Creek Summer Family Adventure Package runs from June to September 2011 and bookings are being accepted now.
“Just because many of us are now parents and grandparents doesn’t mean that we gave up our love of a good time or an appreciation of nature, togetherness and family. What we want to do this summer at Chaa Creek is make it that much easier and affordable to keep on rockin’ with those we love.
“This is our idea of a more mature 'summer of love',” Ms Fleming said.
