I couldn’t be more proud of our members for putting the CGI dream into action by helping our local and global communities – and especially for their donation efforts to help Japan.
Fairfax, VA (Vocus/PRWEB) April 11, 2011
CGI Group Inc (NYSE: GIB; TSX: GIB.A), a leading provider of information technology and business process services today donated $60,000 to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan given the recent tragic events taken place last month.
Donna Morea, CGI President, U.S., Europe and Asia said, "The outpour of member support to assist Japan is what makes CGI a company with heart. I couldn’t be more proud of our members for putting the CGI dream into action by helping our local and global communities – and especially for their donation efforts to help Japan.”
When disaster strikes, organizations like the Red Cross step in to assist in recovery and relief efforts. After the March 11, 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergencies in Japan, CGI wanted to help. CGI members in the U.S. made personal financial contributions toward helping families affected by the recent disasters and, after just three weeks, donations totaled $45,000. CGI has matched $15,000 for a total of $60,000 donated to help the American Red Cross with relief efforts in Japan.
Michael J. Brown, Vice President of Corporate and Foundation Giving at the American Red Cross said, "This contribution from CGI and its members is critically important as we work to help the Japanese Red Cross provide relief and hope to survivors of the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami. In times of disaster, assistance from our corporate partners is key to our ability to fulfill our humanitarian mission."
The American Red Cross is in direct communication with the Japanese Red Cross as they update their needs based on ongoing assessments and response activities, and already sent initial commitments of $60M to help the survivors of the Japan tragedies. CGI’s donation will go directly toward helping the Japanese people rebuild and recover during this very difficult time.
