Denver, CO (PRWEB) April 11, 2011
IP5280 presents the 8th annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will face Ohio State on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. Following the Pioneers’ game, Colorado State’s club lacrosse team will play the University Colorado’s club lacrosse team at 6 p.m.
“IP5280 is very proud to sponsor the 8th Annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown and help support the athletes of CU, CSU, DU and Ohio State,” said John Scarborough, co-founder and Managing Partner of IP5280. “As a leading provider of IP communications and one of the fastest growing companies in Colorado, we are excited to help drive the continued growth of the sport throughout the state.”
Tickets are now on sale for $10 and can be purchased through http://www.TicketMaster.com, or for $12 at the INVESCO Field box office on the day of the game.
“We are very excited to welcome the Ohio State Buckeyes back to Denver, in this all-important ECAC contest,” said head coach Bill Tierney. “INVESCO Field at Mile High is a fantastic venue and a great opportunity to showcase some of the best DI lacrosse in the country. We would like to thank the Denver Broncos and the Denver Outlaws organizations for helping make it a reality.”
The Pioneers hold a 5-8 record when playing against the Buckeyes, but are 3-3 when playing in the Mile-High city. Last season the Pioneers stole a 10-9 last second victory from Ohio State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
This is the third consecutive year in that the Pioneers will host a game at INVESCO Field, hosting Loyola last year in 2010. The Pioneers defeated the Greyhounds 12-4 to finish the ECAC season with a perfect 7-0 record and win the regular season Conference Championship.
“We couldn’t be happier moving the Showdown back to INVESCO Field at Mile High this year,” said Colorado State University head coach Alex Smith. “It’s such a great stage for a rivalry game like this and the atmosphere is going to be electric. Being able to collaborate with groups like the Denver Outlaws and DU lacrosse is a great opportunity for us to showcase our lacrosse program and our sport. The Outlaws and Pat Bowlen have done so much to promote the growth of lacrosse in Colorado and for us to be able to be included means a lot to us. A day like this really deserves this venue and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
The Colorado State University Rams hold a 21-2 record over their instate rivals from Boulder since the year 2000, including a 13-6 victory in last year’s Rocky Mountain Showdown. CU’s lone victory in the past ten years remains their 11-4 decision over the Rams in 2009.
“The level of play at the Collegiate Club Level is getting better each year and when these two teams compete against each other, the intensity of the game matches any rivalry in college lacrosse,” said University of Colorado’s Head of Collegiate Sport Clubs Kris Schoech. “This game represents a competitive spirit that all lacrosse fans will enjoy.”
CSU enjoyed a bounce back season in 2010, rattling off 17 wins before being upset by Simon Fraser in the MCLA national quarterfinals while Colorado endured an up and down campaign that saw them defeat Oregon in the MCLA first round before falling to Arizona State in the quarterfinals as well. Colorado State won the RMLC championship for the first time since 2006 last season and are looking to win consecutive league titles for the first time since 2004.
