New guidebook details intricacies of private annuities

“No other book on the market provides this much detail,” says Mr. Mooney. “Even skilled professionals can have intellectual blinders when it comes to private annuities.”

The private annuity is a risky endeavor unless implemented by an experienced advisor.

The private annuity converts capital, or capital assets, into a lifetime stream of income, ultimately passing the remaining value to succeeding generations with little or no taxation. Unlike commercial annuities where the remaining value is forfeited to an insurance company on death of the annuitant, the annuitant is on both sides of the table; the money stays in the family.

F. Bentley Mooney, Jr., Esq. lays bare the information needed by the professional advisor and sophisticated lay person in his new book, An Advisor’s Guide to Private Annuities. Based on years of experience and expertise in estate planning, trust, and probate law, the book is a comprehensive advisor’s guide for carrying out the private annuity transaction.

“No other book on the market provides this much detail,” says Mr. Mooney. “Even skilled professionals can have intellectual blinders when it comes to private annuities.”

Anything this good for the taxpayer might be disliked by IRS, but that is no reason to steer clear of it. Mooney suggests that private annuities were abused by seminar promoters during the last real estate runup; but again, that is no reason to steer clear of it.
