Forty expectant military moms are receiving the baby shower they deserve today, along with a visit from First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden and Martha Stewart, at an event hosted by Operation Shower at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Biden are visiting the shower to provide support and encouragement for the moms and to highlight their initiative to challenge Americans to support and honor America’s service members and their families. They are bringing gifts donated through a special White House Operation Shower donation drive. Martha Stewart is teaching the art of preserving memories through scrapbooking for these military mothers.

“Operation Shower celebrates and honors military families,” says LeAnn Morrissey, Chief Shower Officer. “Thanks to our generous partners, we don’t just throw a party; we are leaving these moms-to-be with donated gifts totaling more than $1000 for each family.”

The moms-to-be are receiving gift boxes filled with baby supplies, clothing, toys, books and much more courtesy of the PGA TOUR, with support from Pottery Barn Kids, Carousel Designs, Care.com and many other generous donors.

“We are always looking for ways to express our appreciation to those who serve our nation,” says Cathie Hurlburt, Director of Charitable Outreach for the PGA TOUR. “We have hosted Operation Shower at previous TOUR events and are honored to join them today to celebrate these military families.”

Operation Shower is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that hosts joyful baby showers for military families to ease the burden of deployment. Since being founded in 2007, Operation Shower has honored more than 400 families and hosted 12 unit-wide showers for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard. Since 2009, Operation Shower has also partnered with March of Dimes to provide military families with information and support services around pregnancy and newborn health.
