New DOE level portal offers statewide data connectivity that expands data sharing and analysis capabilities.

From the capitol to the classroom to the living room, everyone can now work together towards the same goal – doing what is best for the students.

Skyward, Inc., an industry leading K-12 school administration software provider, announced the availability of its Skyward State Access solution to an enthusiastic crowd of over 1,100 customers, employees, and business partners at the Software and Service (SAS) User Group conference held at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI on Apr 11-12, 2011.

Skyward State Access brings together school districts and their state department of education as a statewide information sharing warehouse. School districts can now simplify the time-consuming process to transfer student data between districts while providing a single portal for statewide analysis of student performance as needed by their state’s department of education.

The importance of accurate student data is more prevalent today than ever, and as the mobility rate of students increases, whether from open enrollment or relocation, the transfer of that data has become more time-consuming and complex. If the student moved multiple times, the loss of crucial historical data is common. Skyward State Access provides an electronic bridge that passes a student’s historical data between districts securely and instantaneously. For states that also deploy a unique student identifier, Skyward State Access can locate that unique ID with an advanced search tool that quickly identifies past records and requests them over the secure portal.

In 2009, Skyward State Access first got off the ground in Washington as a development project with the Washington School Information Processing Cooperative (WSIPC) that deploys Skyward as the school administrative solution for 97 percent of Washington School Districts. “The student mobility rate in the state of Washington can be as high as 40 percent and when those students move it’s extremely valuable for a school administrator to access the student’s entire history,” says Marty Daybell, Executive Director of WSIPC. “Now teachers and administrators know each new student’s strengths and weaknesses immediately. That helps the student succeed in the classroom!”

Skyward State Access also provides an option for state departments of education that partner with Skyward to customize the portal for their specific needs in analyzing student information from across their state. “Skyward is excited to announce this latest offering that streamlines data sharing across an entire state education system. From the capitol to the classroom to the living room, everyone can now work together towards the same goal – doing what is best for the students,” said Cliff King, CEO of Skyward.

Skyward State Access is a centralized portal and data center for state departments of education and school districts for sharing and analyzing student information across their state. To learn more about Skyward, please call 800-236-7274 or visit
