STIA, Vator and SemanticWeb.com (a division of WebMediaBrands Inc., Nasdaq: WEBM) are seeking to identify and recognize promising start-ups in the SemTech and SemWeb space. STIA, Vator, & Semanticweb.com are hosting the 2nd Annual 2011 SemTech Start-Up Competition, which is currently accepting entrants from midnight April 15th until May 15th, 2011. Winners will receive an overall prize package totaling over $12,000.
The Semantic Technology Conference (#SemTech) is the world’s largest conference on the commercialization of semantic technologies, bringing the most recognized names, knowledge, leadership, and innovation in the semantic community together.

Seed Stage Companies, FP7 Projects, NSF Funded Projects and University Projects encouraged to apply are those with a demonstrable “beta” product in the SemTech and or SemWeb space. Companies and projects can be located anywhere but must have the financial means to attend SemTech 2011.
The contest consists of two rounds. The first of which, is based on a popular vote where the top 10 contestants are chosen to move forward. There is no fee to participate in Round One. If voted one of the top 10 semi-finalists there is a $4,000 fee to participate in Round Two which includes a SemTech package of 1 Full Conference pass, a Table Top exhibition space on the exhibit floor Tues. and Wed. and a 6 minute live pitch session including Q&A on Wednesday June 8th, between 12:15-1:30 PM in front of the panel of judges, angel investors, VCs, industry thought leaders, peers, media and relevant SemTech attendees.
During Round Two, an interdisciplinary panel of judges will rate the finalists on their competitive and technological advantages, management team, commercial viability, utilization of semantic technology and innovation. The winner will be announced on June 8, 2011 and will receive a prize package worth $12,000 consisting of a 2012 Silver Sponsorship package (priced at $7,000) a 30-minute speaking slot at the official 2012 SemTech West Program (valued at $3,500) one full conference pass for SemTech West 2012 (valued at $1,795)
