Eve Italia (http:http://www.eve-italia.com) recently announced that “Venice in Venice,” one of 40 Collateral Events in the 2011 Art Biennale, ILLUMInations will mark the reopening of the Palazzo Contarini Dagli Scigni during Vernice, June 1–3, 2011, the grand opening days of the Biennale, an invitation-only event. The exhibition is then open to the public through July 31, 2011, six days a week from 12:00 to 8:00pm (closed Tuesday).

After a ten-year renovation project, the Palazzo is ready to party, and there’s no better way than with the bi-annual event that is sure to transform Venice from a world-class city to a world-class art exhibition. The building has undergone major upgrades, which will be unveiled during the inaugural events, including a state-of-the-art wireless network. While this historic venue slept, event planners sought other venues on the Grand Canal, but none match the opulence of the Palazzo Contarini Dagli Scigni. Eve Italia’s unprecedented connections prove once again that their strong ties lead to amazing, unmatched venues.

Co-curators, Jacqueline Miro and Tim Nye, will debut the event in Palazzo Contarini Dagli Scigni in dramatic style. Kicking off the show will be psychedelic-painted gondolas by Billy Al Bengston, moving down the Grand Canal, ending at Palazzo Grassi. This short journey unites Venice, Italy with Venice Beach, California thousands of miles away, creating a space-time continuum of Venetian tradition with California 60s surf culture. Venice will never be the same.

Marina Snow, Founder and CEO of Eve Italia shared, “Reopening the Palazzo Contarini Dagli Scigni deserves the most elaborate show imaginable. ‘Venice in Venice’ is the perfect fit! There’s nothing like this event, bringing the centennial of Venice Beach, California to Venice, Italy. You have to see it believe it.”

Eve Italia has organized a variety of extravagant events that creatively introduce retro beach culture to Venice, Italy. Such as, two quarter-pipe skate ramps installed at Campo San Polo to create a highly unique piece of interactive, contemporary art by two of Venice Beach, California’s most beloved gods in skate culture; Steve and Alex Olson.

“Eve Italia knows the ins and outs of making extravagant events actually happen,” says Jacqueline Miro, co-curator of ‘Venice in Venice.’” She adds, “Until you get local permission, it’s just a nice idea. We couldn’t have brought California to Venice without Eve Italia.”

Creative events require creative catering. It’s Italy after all, where excellent food is a priority at every meal. Eve Italia has secured top caterers for creating one-of-a-kind culinary experiences for the Vernice, while concerts, readings and performances of all kinds fill the schedule. See (http://eve-italia.com/2011/04/venice-in-venice-event-schedule-2011-art-biennale) for details.

And oh yes, there’s art, and lots of it from California masters of contemporary 60s style. The exhibition pays homage to the art, politics and technical progress of the last 50 years, all in one single event. The works of John Baldessari, Billy Al Bengston, Larry Bell, Laddie John Dill, Robert Irwin, Craig Kauffman, Ed Ruscha, and more will fill the glimmering Palazzo with the buzz of retro-cool, while serving up stimulating and conceptual subject matter to spur illuminating conversations, the purpose behind the theme of the Biennale – Illuminating Nations. “Venice and Venice” literally, and figuratively, brings together two countries thousands of miles apart, but united in name and concern for the water that shapes the sister cities’ famous personalities and styles.
