The MedFolio Pillbox utilizes innovative pillbox technology to help patients make the first step in taking control of their medications.

Julie Fulmer-Mason, President of MedFolio, announced today that the company will be showcasing their new product, the MedFolio Pillbox, at the ASA Aging in America Conference in San Francisco from April 26-29, 2011. The conference hosts the largest gathering of a diverse multidisciplinary community of professionals from the fields of aging, healthcare, and education. Filling a much needed void, the MedFolio Pillbox helps patients with more varied and complex medication regimens adhere to their dosage schedule properly. The device was developed and designed by Fulmer-Mason, an experienced pharmacist who repeatedly saw a need for a medication management device that transformed the proven-effective disposable pill boxes to a system that integrated into an active, independent 21st Century lifestyle.

Fulmer-Mason received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of California San Francisco in 1998. She has worked extensively as a Clinical Pharmacist in the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, most notably with the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Fulmer-Mason founded MedFolio in 2008 and immediately began research and development on the company’s signature product, the MedFolio Pillbox.

The MedFolio Pillbox features a unique, patented pill identification system that provides a visual portfolio of medications stored in the device to support medication discussions between patients, caregivers, and their healthcare providers. Daily pill storage boxes are detachable for a short-term supply of medications, though its small size and portability makes for easy transport of the device to medical appointments and daily lifestyle activities. The pillbox interfaces seamlessly with the provided MedFolio computer software to initiate audio and visual alerts for scheduled doses stored in the database. The visual LED lighting system not only signifies that a medication dose is scheduled to be taken, but it also illuminates the exact compartment housing that scheduled medication dose. Patients and caregivers can opt to receive additional reminder alerts electronically through e-mail or text message notifications.

Medication only works when taken properly. As the baby-boomer generation begins to rely on healthcare services and prescriptions to maintain their health, medication compliance becomes even more important. The MedFolio Pillbox not only helps maintain proper medication regimens, but also empowers users to take control of their medications and engage in more knowledgeable discussions with their healthcare providers. After a successful soft launch, MedFolio partnered with Home Controls and Nurture Connect for distribution. Patients and caregivers are also invited to visit the MedFolio website where more detailed information is available and the MedFolio Pillbox can be purchased.
